Tesco’s search for the best local produce in Britain

Tesco has launched its Local Sourcing project, to get more local, seasonal food into local stores.

The supermarket has set up a setwork of regional buying offices around the UK and is holding food road-shows, where local producers can meet local Tesco buyers and technical experts. This on-going project has attracted huge support from hundreds of local producers around the country. See more at www.tesco.com/regionalsourcing.

Local sourcing is one part of Tesco’s CR programme, with policies on climate change, the environment, animal welfare, recycling, packaging and sustainability. See more at www.tescocorporate.com/cr.htm.

The Red Brick Road, Tesco’s advertising agency, asked Footprint to make a short film based on this national search for the best local produce in Britain.

What do they think?

“We commissioned Footprint to produce a film about Tesco’s South East Local road show. These road shows, which take place around the UK, are designed to introduce members of Tesco’s Local Sourcing team to small suppliers who want to get their local produce into the retailer’s stores.

Given the nature of these meetings, it was imperative that the production team filmed these ‘first introductions’ in a considered and un-obtrusive way. Scott Jones and his team at Footprint consistently exceeded our expectations, not only with the fact they managed to capture a vast number of these meetings in a short period of time, but also because from the outset they created a strong element of trust between themselves & the supplier and this allowed us to get very sincere and honest moments on camera.

The response to the film has been incredibly positive for all who have viewed it.  The passion of the suppliers, rigour of the Local Sourcing team and joint desire to create successful relationships could not have been documented better and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with them throughout this process.

The end result is a beautifully sequenced film which is an honest and visually stunning record of this South East road show. We could not recommend Footprint or Scott more highly.”
