Engage. Inform. Inspire.
Footprint is the first production company in the UK to put sustainability at the heart of what we do – in the office, on location and in the stories we tell on screen. We do the basics – around energy, travel, paper use and greening our supply chain - but go one step further to make Footprint one of the most sustainable production companies in the UK.
> On screen
We help clients use the power of real stories on screen to communicate sustainability, integrate sustainability into their business and bring about social, economic and environmental change. See+ our films.
This is the first film we made in 2007, for Good Energy. It encourages people to generate their own power using wind turbines and solar panels – and captures our ethics perfectly. Juliet Davenport, Good Energy’s CEO, said: “The film is highly effective at communicating our work and the important message of climate change. Footprint respected our principles and made a real effort to keep the project as low carbon as possible – something we greatly appreciated.”

In 2008 The Center for Environmental Filmmaking in the United States asked Footprint to work on the world’s first Code of Best Practices for Sustainable Filmmaking. The code was funded by WWF and shapes how we work today. In 2010 and 2011 The Queen’s Award for Enterprise Sustainable Development commended Footprint “for the ways it is promoting sustainability, both through its film production and through wider company operations” and our “commitment to waste minimization, use of local suppliers and engagement with the Carbon Leapfrog programme.” We support Carbon Leapfrog, the charity that helps low carbon projects in the UK and internationally.

In 2011 the BBC invited Footprint to be on the panel at the launch of Albert, the world’s first carbon calculator for the TV industry, along with Ellen MacArthur, Sky and BAFTA. We give advice on sustainable production, to programmes such as BBC Three’s Being Human. Footprint are co-founders of ThinkFutureNow, a project which helps creative companies work in a more sustainable way. The project is supported by Forum for the Future. And the UKTI has selected Footprint as a ‘success story’ for its global promotion of the UK’s Creative Industries. UKTI chose Footprint because of our commitment to sustainable production.
